Overview
Land of Hope, originally titled Oma maa, is a 2018 Finnish romantic drama film directed by Markku Polonen. The screenplay was written by Polonen and Antti Heikkinen. The story is set between 1945 and 1952 and features Oona Airola as Anni Malmberg and Konsta Laakso as Veikko Naskali. Anni is a woman from a wealthy family accustomed to a secure life who falls in love with Veikko, a war invalid of the Continuation War. Leaving her past behind, Anni moves to the wild forests of northern Karelia to begin a new life as a pioneer on a settlement farm. While the couple experiences a positive start to their life together, their relationship faces significant challenges as fate intervenes to test their love and crush Anni’s dreams.
