Overview

Knights of Sidonia is a science fiction anime television series set in a future where humanity survives aboard a massive spaceship after Earth's destruction. The series follows Nagate Tanikaze, a young man who was secretly hidden by his grandfather in the lower levels of the spacecraft Sidonia. When Nagate finally emerges to the ship's surface, he enters a world where military service remains mandatory despite the passage of time since humanity's last encounter with an alien threat. His arrival coincides with the sudden reappearance of the Gauna, the alien race responsible for Earth's destruction. As humanity once again faces this existential threat, Nagate becomes involved in the ongoing conflict aboard the isolated vessel where the remnants of human civilization struggle to survive. The series explores themes of survival, duty, and humanity's persistence in the face of overwhelming odds while depicting life in the confined spaces of a generation ship.
