Overview

Kakegurui is a television series centered on the social hierarchy of Hyakkaou Academy. The school operates under a system managed by a corrupt and sadistic student council where status is determined entirely by gambling. Students who accumulate debts they cannot repay are demeaned by their peers and forced to serve those to whom they owe money. The stakes of these competitions are severe, as some games involve the potential loss of fingernails, eyes, or even one's life. This established order is disrupted by the arrival of a transfer student named Yumeko Jabami. Described as dark, mysterious, and attractive, Jabami acts as a wildcard within the school. Unlike the other students who are bound by the rigid structure of the academy, she participates in the high-stakes gambling matches primarily for the thrill of the experience. Her presence challenges the existing system and introduces an unpredictable element to the academy, as she demonstrates a willingness to engage in dangerous games that threaten the status quo of the institution.
