Overview

Isaura: Slave Girl is a 1976 Brazilian telenovela produced by TV Globo that aired between 11 October 1976 and 5 February 1977. Set in 19th-century Brazil during the waning years of slavery, the series follows the life of Isaura, a white-skinned enslaved woman who was raised with the manners and education of a noble lady. Although she is treated with affection by her mistress, Isaura remains legally enslaved. Following the death of her protector, she falls under the control of Leôncio Almeida, the cruel heir to the plantation. Leôncio develops an obsessive desire for Isaura, attempting to seduce and dominate her. Despite his persistent efforts, Isaura resists his advances, remaining determined to preserve her dignity and freedom. With the assistance of her father, Miguel, she eventually escapes to Recife. The narrative focuses on the difficulties faced by the gentle-hearted young woman as she navigates the challenges of the Brazilian colonial period while targeted by the obsession of her lord.
