The series stars Fred Dryer as Sergeant Rick Hunter, a wily, physically imposing, and rule-breaking homicide detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Stepfanie Kramer co-starred as Sergeant Dee Dee McCall, a stunning and rebellious partner who worked alongside Hunter to resolve numerous cases. Kramer departed the series following the sixth season to pursue other acting and musical opportunities.
