Hiyokko is a 2017 drama television series that follows the life of seventeen-year-old Yatabe Mineko. Raised in a family of seven, Mineko grows up in a mountain village located in the northeastern region of Ibaraki Prefecture. Her father, Minoru, leaves the village to work in Tokyo to earn additional income for the family. The narrative shifts when Minoru fails to return home for the New Year, prompting a significant change in Mineko's life. Determined to find her father, she requests permission from her family to travel to Tokyo, promising to send money back home to support them. In the autumn of 1964, Mineko moves to the city alongside two childhood friends named Tokiko and Mitsuo. The trio secures employment at a small factory situated in a working-class neighborhood. While balancing her daily factory responsibilities, Mineko spends her evenings searching for her father, a process that frequently leaves her feeling disheartened as she navigates her new life in the capital city.
