Disney's Hercules is an American animated television series that serves as a prequel to the 1997 film of the same name. The program follows the life of Hercules as a teenager during the years he spent training to become a hero. Under the tutelage of the satyr Philoctetes, the young hero-to-be navigates various labors and adventures. Throughout the series, Hercules interacts with many Olympian Gods and Goddesses who visit him to either help or hinder his progress. The show also features appearances from other characters, including Hades and Pegasus. As a spin-off and midquel to the 1997 Disney animated feature, the series introduces a wider range of characters from Greek mythology. The show premiered in syndication on August 31, 1998, and began airing on Disney's One Saturday Morning on September 12, 1998. The syndicated portion of the series consisted of 52 episodes. The narrative focuses on the character's development and training before the events depicted in the original film.
