Overview

Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre is a television series based on the novel by Jin Yong, who also authored Legend of the Condor Heroes and Return of the Condor Heroes. The narrative is set in 14th century China during the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty, occurring approximately 100 years after the events depicted in Return of the Condor Heroes. The story explores a period defined by decades of struggle, famine, and widespread bitterness among Chinese citizens, who attribute these hardships to the misgovernment of the Yuan Dynasty. In response to these conditions, various martial arts sects initiate a rebellion against the ruling power. To address the growing unrest, Prince Ruyong seeks assistance from Cheng Kun, a Shaolin monk who harbors an ulterior motive. The series examines the political and social tensions of the era as the martial arts community becomes increasingly involved in the resistance against the dynasty. The production draws from the established literary work of Jin Yong to portray this historical setting and the conflicts that emerge within it.
