Overview

Head of the Class is an American sitcom that aired on the ABC television network between 1986 and 1991. The series centers on a group of gifted students enrolled in the Individualized Honors Program at the fictional Monroe High School in Manhattan. These students are guided by their history teacher, Charlie Moore. The program served as a vehicle for actor Howard Hesseman, who was previously known for his portrayal of the radio disc jockey Dr. Johnny Fever on the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. Hesseman remained with the series until 1990. Following his departure, Billy Connolly joined the cast to portray the character Billy MacGregor, who served as the teacher for the final season of the program. After the conclusion of the series, Connolly appeared in a short-lived spin-off project. The show documents the academic and personal experiences of the students within the honors program throughout its five-year run on network television.
