Green Acres is an American absurdist sitcom that premiered on CBS on September 15, 1965. Created by Jay Sommers and produced by Filmways, the series was a sister show to Petticoat Junction and functioned as a spin-off associated with Paul Henning. The program stars Eddie Albert as a New York City attorney and Eva Gabor as his wife, who move from the city to live as farmers in the community of Hooterville. The cast also includes Tom Lester and Pat Buttram. The series maintained a six-year run until April 27, 1971, when it was cancelled as part of the rural purge by CBS. Beyond its initial broadcast, the sitcom has been available in syndication as well as on DVD and VHS releases. In 1997, the two-part episode A Star Named Arnold is Born was ranked 59th on the list of TV Guide's 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time. The original cast also reunited nearly 20 years later for the made-for-television movie titled Return to Green Acres.
