The plot follows Paul and Agnes, who have been going out for quite a while. Agnes is shocked to learn that Paul would rather live with two roommates on campus than move in with her. As soon as he meets one of his roommates, Louis-Anault, Paul's behavior changes, and he is attracted to Louis without realizing it himself. Meanwhile, Agnes grows quite jealous and proposes a bet that whoever gets to have Louis-Anault first wins. Under the terms of the bet, if Agnes wins, Paul will no longer explore his homosexual desires, but if Paul wins, she will walk away. During this time, Paul also meets Mecir, a young Arab worker who shows him there is more to life than elite contexts.
