Overview
Good News is a 1947 American Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical film based on the 1927 stage production of the same name. Set during the Roaring twenties at fictitious Tait University, the story follows school librarian and co-ed Connie Lane, who falls in love with football hero Tommy Marlowe. Tommy, however, has his eye on a gold-digging vamp named Pat McClellan. As a result of his distractions, Tommy's grades begin to slip, which threatens to keep him from playing in the big game. Eventually, Connie discovers that Tommy truly loves her and creates a plan to win him back while also getting him back onto the football field. The film was released in the United States on December 4, 1947, has a run time of one hour and thirty-five minutes, and is categorized under the music, comedy, and romance genres. The production starred June Allyson, Peter Lawford, Mel Tormé, and Joan McCracken.
