Overview

Ghost of the Mirror is a 1974 film directed in Hong Kong that blends the genres of horror and romance with a runtime of one hour and thirty-three minutes. Adapted from a Tang Dynasty fantasy tale, the film was directed by Sung Chuen-sau, who emphasized literary and romantic elements rather than killing or horror. The story follows a scholar named Chan, played by actor Shih Chun, who stays in a remote mansion located outside the city where people often fall into a well for no apparent reason. After looking into the well, Chan later sees a girl from the well named Susu, played by actress Brigitte Lin, waving to him. Susu begins to wait on him nightly. The background of Susu reveals that she was from a wealthy family, was running away from bandits during wartime, and committed suicide by jumping into the well. The film was released in Hong Kong on October fourth, 1974.
