Overview

Gargoyles is an American animated television series created by Greg Weisman for Walt Disney Television Animation and Buena Vista Television. The program originally aired from October 24, 1994, to February 15, 1997. The story begins in Scotland in 994 A.D., where Goliath and his clan of gargoyles defend a medieval castle. In the present day, David Xanatos purchases the castle and moves it to New York City. Following an attack on the structure, the gargoyles are awakened from a one-thousand-year curse and pledge to protect the modern city as they once did in Scotland. The series is recognized for its relatively dark tone, complex story arcs, and use of melodrama. The second season consisted of 52 episodes and included a long mid-season story arc known as The Gargoyles World Tour. The third season was also known as Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles. Production involved various collaborators, including Walt Disney Animation Japan, Jade Animation, Tama Productions, and Nelvana Limited. The voice cast included Keith David, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Jeff Bennett, and Thom Adcox-Hernandez.
