Overview
Gantz is an anime television series based on the manga written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Directed by Ichiro Itano and animated by the studio Gonzo, the series was broadcast in 2004. The show consists of 26 episodes divided into two seasons and aired in Japan on Fuji Television and AT-X. The story follows a teenager named Kei Kurono who dies in a train accident. Following their deaths, individuals are transported to an apartment containing a bizarre, ominous black sphere known as the Gantz. Those chosen by the sphere are tasked with participating in a brutal, gory game that involves hunting and killing aliens hidden among the human population. Participants are forced to undertake these missions as their only chance to reclaim their mortality. If a participant dies while playing this game, the death is permanent. The series features voice performances from actors including Hiroshi Kamiya, Daisuke Namikawa, John Swasey, and Chris Patton. The property later inspired two live-action films released in 2011 and a CGI anime film titled Gantz: O in 2016.
