Overview

Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening and developed for television by Groening and David X. Cohen. The series takes its name from a famous General Motors exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair that depicted a futuristic landscape. The television network Fox expressed interest in a new series from Groening following the success of The Simpsons, leading him to conceive the show during the mid-1990s. The narrative follows Philip J. Fry, a late-20th-century New York City pizza delivery boy. After being accidentally cryogenically frozen in 1999, he is thawed out on New Year's Eve 2999. Fry eventually finds employment at Planet Express, an interplanetary delivery company operating in the retro-futuristic 31st century. The series features voice performances by Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, and Tress MacNeille. Originally airing on the Fox Broadcasting Company, the show was later revived by Comedy Central and Hulu. It is available to stream on platforms including Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
