Overview
Fruits Basket is a television anime series that serves as a reboot adaptation of the manga series written by Natsuki Takaya. The production was directed by Yoshihide Ibata and produced by TMS Entertainment. The series premiered on April 6, 2019, on TV Tokyo and consists of an adaptation covering all 23 volumes of the original manga. The story follows a 16-year-old high school student named Tohru Honda, who finds herself living in a tent after a family tragedy. She eventually pitches her tent on private land belonging to the Soma family. After the Somas discover her living situation, they offer to take her in. Tohru soon learns that the family harbors a secret: twelve members of the clan transform involuntarily into animals of the Chinese zodiac when hugged by the opposite sex. As she integrates into their lives, Tohru helps the family members navigate the emotional pain caused by these transformations. The series features voice performances from actors including Manaka Iwami, Laura Bailey, Nobunaga Shimazaki, and Eric Vale.
