Foyle's War is a British detective drama television series created by author and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz. The program was commissioned by ITV following the conclusion of the series Inspector Morse. The series first premiered in 2002 and ran until 2015. The narrative is set during and shortly after the Second World War. The first season specifically takes place in southern England during the spring and summer of 1940. At this time, the bombing of England has commenced, and anti-German sentiment is high, leading to the internment of local Germans. Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle serves as the central figure of the series. Despite his repeated requests for a service transfer, his applications are denied, and he returns to his duties in local police work in Hastings. While the global conflict of the Second World War rages, Foyle conducts his own investigations into crimes occurring on the south coast of England.
