The story serves as a prequel to the Fist of the North Star series, focusing on the interval between Kenshiro's initial defeat by Shin and their subsequent battle. The narrative follows Kenshiro as he traverses a post-apocalyptic wasteland after being backstabbed by Shin, who kidnapped Kenshiro's love interest. In this original storyline, a near-death Kenshiro uses his remaining strength to kill a pack of wolves before being captured by slavers. Although he possesses the power to escape captivity at any time, he chooses to remain with the group to protect the other slaves. The production features the voice talents of Hiroshi Abe, Yuriko Ishida, Romi Park, and Takeshi Aono. The film, which has a runtime of one hour and twenty-three minutes, was released in Japan on October 11, 2008. It is also known by the title Shin Kyuseishu densetsu Hokuto no Ken - Kenshiro den.
