Shanghai in the 1930s is a dangerous place. Foreign governments and Chinese factions have carved the city into different quarters, each with its own laws and government, and all rife with corruption. As the major powers vie for political control, the streets are left to local gangs. Life is cheap, and death is always near.
In days past, one man walked these mean streets battling the forces of evil. He was known only as Yan Wang, "the King of Death." Few knew who he really was, but many knew that he was a master of Hokuto Shinken - Fist of the North Star - a lethal martial art. He disappeared.
This television series explores the violent underworld of 1930s Shanghai through the story of Yan Wang, a mysterious martial artist skilled in the deadly Hokuto Shinken fighting style. The show depicts the chaotic political situation of the era, where foreign powers and Chinese factions have divided the city into separate territories. Each district operates under its own system of governance, creating an environment of widespread corruption and lawlessness. Local criminal organizations control the streets while larger political forces compete for dominance. Yan Wang, known by his fearsome nickname "the King of Death," once patrolled these dangerous neighborhoods fighting against evil before his disappearance. His mastery of the lethal Fist of the North Star martial art made him a legendary figure whose true identity remained unknown to most who encountered him.
