Overview

Favorite Concubine is a 2020 film that follows the story of a wealthy man named Jun-soo. Following his retirement, Jun-soo moves to a local villa due to health concerns and paralysis. He is accompanied by his wife, Hye-sook, and a man named Joo-seok. As Jun-soo’s condition worsens and he becomes reliant on a wheelchair, Hye-sook and Joo-seok engage in an affair. Hoping to spend more time together without interruption, the pair hires a caregiver for Jun-soo. However, the situation becomes complicated when Joo-seok begins to take an interest in the caregiver. After discovering the infidelity of his wife and Joo-seok, Jun-soo decides to make a secret proposal to the caregiver, So-eun. The film, which is also known by the Korean title Aecheop, explores the shifting dynamics and tensions between these characters within the isolated setting of the villa. The narrative centers on the consequences of the characters' hidden agendas and the power struggles that emerge as Jun-soo deals with his declining physical health and his wife's betrayal.
