Family by Choice is a 2024 drama and family television series categorized as a youth romance. The show centers on a found family consisting of two men and a woman who are not biologically related, but who treated one another as family during their teen years.
During their adolescence, Kim San-ha, Yun Ju-won, and Kang Hae-joon shared a close bond and were raised by Ju-won's father, Jeong-jae, and San-ha's father, Dae-uk. The two fathers did their best to provide a happy childhood for the trio as they healed from past trauma.
Upon reaching adulthood, San-ha and Hae-joon sought out their biological families, which left Ju-won behind. Ten years later, the five members of the found family reunite, but things have changed. Ju-won holds some resentment after feeling abandoned by San-ha and Hae-joon. Meanwhile, the two young men struggle with their own familial issues as well as new romantic feelings for Ju-won.
