Season overview

Emily Owens, M.D. follows the professional and personal journey of Emily Owens, a recent medical school graduate beginning her career as a first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital. As she navigates the high-stakes environment of life-and-death medical decisions, Emily discovers that the hospital social structure mirrors the dynamics of high school. She finds herself working alongside her former medical school crush, Will Rider, who is also an intern at the facility. Complicating her new life is the presence of her high school nemesis, Cassandra Kopelson, who is also starting her internship at the hospital. The two women find themselves in direct competition, both as surgical interns and for the attention of Will Rider. The hospital environment is divided into cliques reminiscent of her past, with orthopedic surgeons acting as the jocks, plastic surgeons as the mean girls, and the emergency room staff as the rebels. Throughout the season, Emily must learn to balance the emotional turmoil of these social politics with the professional demands of her medical training under the guidance of world-famous cardiologist Dr. Gina Beckett. The series explores the challenges of transitioning into adulthood while managing the persistent pressures of interpersonal relationships within a demanding medical workplace.
