Overview

Ella Enchanted is a 2004 jukebox musical fantasy comedy film directed by Tommy O'Haver and written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith. The film is loosely based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Gail Carson Levine. The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Hugh Dancy, Cary Elwes, and Aidan McArdle. The story follows a young woman named Ella who lives in a magical world where children receive a virtuous gift from a fairy godmother at birth.
