The Echo Chamber is a romantic drama film released in 2026. The film is directed by Andrea Pallaoro. The screenplay was written by Bernardo Bertolucci, in his final screenplay before his death in 2018, along with Ilaria Bernardini and Ludovica Rampoldi. The cast includes Alicia Vikander, Luca Marinelli, Susan Sarandon, and Ann Akinjirin. The story centers on a love story where the boundaries between presence and absence, care and dependence, desire and control blur until they dissolve. Additional plot details describe Leo and Ava as they chase each other by coming close, drifting apart, and searching for their way back, unable to let go or break free. Through the rooms, Ava's voice echoes across time, carrying to the surface what endures and what can no longer be held back. The film is also described as an exploration in narcissistic desire, a kind of autoeroticopsis in being the subject of desire for yourself, functioning as a real time feedback loop of seeing and being seen.
