Dr. Finlay's Casebook 1962

Overview

Dr. Finlay's Casebook is a BBC television series that originally aired from 1962 until 1971. The program is based on the novella Country Doctor by A. J. Cronin. Set in the fictional Scottish town of Tannochbrae, the storylines focus on the operations of a general medical practice during the late 1920s. The series ran for five seasons and featured a cast that included Bill Simpson as Dr. Alan Finlay, Andrew Cruickshank as Dr. Angus Cameron, and Barbara Mullen as Janet MacPherson. Other cast members included Eric Woodburn, who played Dr. Alexander Snoddie, and Effie Morrison. The show is categorized as both a comedy and a drama. In addition to the regular cast, the series featured guest appearances from various actors throughout its production. The show debuted on television shortly after the 1961 premieres of other medical dramas such as Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey. The production remains a notable example of BBC drama programming from the 1960s, documenting the professional and personal lives of medical practitioners in a historical Scottish setting.
