Donny and Marie is an American variety show that aired on the ABC network from January 1976 until January 1979. The program stars the brother and sister pop duo Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond. Donny Osmond gained initial popularity as a singer in a music group alongside his brothers, known as The Osmonds. Marie Osmond achieved recognition as one of the youngest singers to reach the number one position on the Billboard Country Music charts. The siblings were offered their own weekly television series by ABC-TV President Fred Silverman. This offer followed an appearance where the duo served as co-hosts for a week on The Mike Douglas Show. Their selection for the variety program also followed a series of popular remakes of oldies, including tracks such as I am Leaving It Up To You and Morning Side Of The Mountain. The show remains a notable example of the musical variety format that featured the siblings performing together throughout their three-year run on network television.
