Dark Shadows is an American gothic soap opera that aired weekdays on the ABC television network. Created by Dan Curtis, the program ran from June 27, 1966, until April 2, 1971. The original story bible, written by Art Wallace, did not include any supernatural elements. However, the series became known for introducing ghosts approximately six months after its debut, which was considered unprecedented in daytime television at the time. The show achieved significant popularity following the introduction of the vampire character Barnabas Collins one year into its run. Over the course of its broadcast history, the series expanded its narrative to include a variety of supernatural and science-fiction themes. These elements featured werewolves, zombies, and man-made monsters. Furthermore, the storyline incorporated witches, warlocks, time travel, and the existence of a parallel universe.
