Crossroads is a British television soap opera set in a fictional motel near Birmingham, England. Created by Hazel Adair and Peter Ling, the series focused on the lives of a motel owner, her son, her daughter, and the staff. The commercial ITV network originally broadcast the series between 1964 and 1988, with production handled by ATV and later Central. The program featured drama, comedy, and tragedy centered around the ringing of the reception bell. Throughout its history, the show was also known as Crossroads Motel and Crossroads King's Oak. The series became known for its production values, particularly during the 1970s and early 1980s. The original theme tune was composed by Tony Hatch and was covered by Paul McCartney and Wings on their 1975 album Venus and Mars. Carlton Television produced a glossier revival of the series that aired from 2001 until its cancellation in 2003. The cast of the series included Noele Gordon, Roger Tonge, Susan Hanson, Jane Rossington, and Kate O'Mara, with direction by Alan Coleman.
