Trailer
Overview
Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese neo-noir space Western anime television series that premiered in 1998. Set in the year 2071, the show takes place in a future where Earth has become largely uninhabitable following a hyperspace gateway accident decades earlier. Humanity has since spread across the Solar System, settling on various planets and moons. As crime rates rise, the Inter Solar System Police establish a legalized bounty hunting system, where individuals known as "Cowboys" pursue fugitives for rewards. The series follows a group of intergalactic loners who team up to track down these criminals. Created and animated by Sunrise, the show was developed under the leadership of director Shinichirō Watanabe and screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto. It originally aired on TV Tokyo and Wowow from 1998 to 1999. The term "cowboy," historically referring to cattle herders in the American West, is reimagined in this futuristic setting as bounty hunters navigating a lawless frontier in space.
