In the March 14, 1962 episode of Coronation Street, Ken reveals to others that he is currently writing a novel. His book focuses on three boys who are growing up together in a back street. Later in the episode, drama unfolds at the local establishment when Jack collapses behind the bar. Following the incident, Jack is taken to see Dr. Graham for a medical examination. Annie immediately blames herself for the collapse and fears the worst for his condition. However, Jack is ultimately cleared by the doctor, who determines that he simply overeaten. Despite the medical clearance, Annie remains unconvinced and believes that Jack is only lying about his health to save her feelings. The series itself follows the ordinary, working-class residents of Coronation Street through regular social and family interactions at home.
