Overview

Catweazle is a British television series created and written by Richard Carpenter that first aired in 1970. The program follows a medieval wizard who is transported to the modern age. Geoffrey Bayldon portrays the titular character in both seasons of the show. The first season was produced and directed by Quentin Lawrence for London Weekend Television under the LWI banner and was screened in the United Kingdom on ITV. A second season followed in 1971, featuring direction by David Reid and David Lane. Each of the two seasons consisted of thirteen episodes. Beyond its original broadcast in Britain, the series was also distributed internationally. The show appeared on television in Ireland, Gibraltar, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and the Czech Republic. The production remains a notable example of television from the era, documenting the fish-out-of-water experiences of its central character as he navigates a world far removed from his own time.
