Camille is a 1921 American silent drama film directed by Ray C. Smallwood. The production is based on the play adaptation La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas, fils, which originated as an 1848 novel and an 1852 play. The film stars Alla Nazimova as the title character, a Parisian courtesan, and Rudolph Valentino as her lover, Armand Duval. The cast also includes Rex Cherryman and Arthur Hoyt.
The story follows the courtesan as she falls deeply in love with Armand, a young man of promise. Their relationship is challenged when Armand's father asks her to end the romance to protect his son's career and social position. She eventually acquiesces to this request and leaves her lover. Later, as she faces the combined hardships of poverty and terminal illness, she discovers that Armand has not lost his love for her. The film, which runs for one hour and ten minutes, was released in the United States on September 26, 1921, and is classified within the drama and romance genres.
