Season overview

Britain's Next Top Model, Cycle 1, was the inaugural series of the reality competition and aired on LIVINGtv. The programme followed a group of aspiring models as they competed for a modelling contract and related prizes. The winner, 20‑year‑old Lucy Ratcliffe of Newcastle upon Tyne, received a management and representation contract with Models 1, a contract with Ruby & Millie cosmetics, a fashion cover for B Magazine, and an additional management contract with Beatrice Models in Milan. The competition included international travel to Paris, France, and Milan, Italy. The series was presented by former supermodel Lisa Butcher, who served as host, and the judging panel comprised Marie Helvin and Jonathan Phang. After each episode a short follow‑up called “The Evictees Story” aired, profiling the eliminated contestant and her experience in the competition, and a separate segment titled “Britain’s Next Top Model: Confessionals” featured the remaining contestants speaking in a confessional setting about one another. Both supplemental programmes were discontinued in later cycles, with “The Evictees Story” dropped after the second series and “Confessionals” removed after the third. The format established in Cycle 1 set the template for subsequent seasons of the show.
