Blankety Blank is a British comedy game show that first aired in 1979. The program is based on the Australian game show Blankety Blanks, which ran from 1977 to 1979, and is also based on the American game show Match Game. In the series, contestants attempt to match answers provided by a panel of celebrities to fill-in-the-blank questions. The original British version broadcast on BBC One from 18 January 1979 until 12 March 1990. This iteration was hosted by Terry Wogan and later by Les Dawson. Regular celebrity panelists included Kenny Everett, Lorraine Chase, Gareth Hunt, Gary Davies, and Cheryl Baker. A revival of the show fronted by Lily Savage was produced by the BBC from 26 December 1997 to 28 December 1999. This was followed by an ITV version produced by Grundy and later Thames, which aired from 7 January 2001 to 10 August 2002. The format of the show features celebrity guests and the awarding of prizes.
