Bernard is an animated television series composed of short three‑minute episodes that follow the adventures of a curious polar bear named Bernard. The program is a co‑production involving Korean, Spanish and French partners and presents its humor through slapstick situations in which the mute bear, who only emits unintelligible noises, explores various settings. A recurring cast of supporting characters includes the penguins Lloyd and Eva, the lizard Zack, the chihuahua Goliat, the infant Sam, the dog Pilot, the porcupine Pokey and a figure of Santa Claus. Episodes typically conclude with Bernard being knocked unconscious or seriously injured after his misadventures. In South Korea the series is known as Backkom, while in Spain it is called Berni.
