Overview

Belzebubs is a Finnish webcomic and fictional black metal band created by JP Ahonen. The project documents the daily lives of a family that maintains a stereotypical black metal aesthetic while navigating everyday chaos. The narrative centers on Sløth, a well-meaning stay-at-home father who attempts to balance his family responsibilities with his ambitions as the frontman of the band. The story explores the experiences of this satanic demon-worshipping family, including their romantic affairs and the evolution of the father’s career. Beyond the webcomic, the property has expanded into a mockumentary-style adult animation produced by Pyjama Films. Banijay Kids and Family has secured distribution rights for the series, which is confirmed for broadcast on YLE in Finland. Historically, the band lore states they formed as a trio in 2002, recorded two albums, and experienced a hiatus before a resurgence in 2018. The project has faced challenges, including the cancellation of planned festival appearances in Europe during the corona outbreak. The franchise continues to be updated through digital comics on platforms like WEBTOON.
