Overview

Asa ga Kita is a television series set in Kyoto during the final years of the Edo era. The story focuses on the family of a wealthy merchant named Imai Tadamasa, who has three children named Hatsu, Asa, and Kyutaro. Hatsu is described as a traditional girl with an interest in sewing and playing the koto. In contrast, her younger sister Asa is characterized as an impish hoyden who enjoys the sport of sumo wrestling. The plot follows the arrangement of a marriage between Asa and Shirooka Shinjiro, the second son of a prominent family that operates a money changer business in Osaka.
