Lan Xiang goes against Zhao Xing Tang to get Lu Ji Er and Xiao Pu's indenture papers. Xing Tang wanted 30,000 taels of silver, but Lan Xiang offered her something better: a way for a woman in her position to keep the money she earns, so that it doesn't end up in her family's coffers or her husband's hands. Once free, Lu Ji Er and Xiao Pu decide they want to start new lives in a new city. They chose Quanzhou, and A Zhi decides to join them. Lan Xiang gives Lu Ji Er gold, equivalent to 500 taels of silver, only revealed right before they boarded their caravan. Lin Jin Qi finds out Lan Xiang pawned her jewelry for three months to get the money for Lu Ji Er, so he redeemed it immediately. Three months later, he and Lan Xiang had the awkward conversation about how Lan Xiang could earn 500 taels of silver in just three months.
