Overview
Adrift is a 2018 survival drama film directed by Baltasar Kormákur and written by David Branson Smith, Aaron Kandell, and Jordan Kandell. The film stars Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin as a couple who find themselves adrift in the middle of the Pacific Ocean after encountering a hurricane. The story is based on the 2002 book Red Sky in Mourning by Tami Oldham Ashcraft, recounting a true story set during Hurricane Raymond in 1983. In the aftermath of the catastrophic storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope of rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to survive. Additionally, another production titled Adrift, released in 2018, is set in Italy in 1994 during the war in the Balkans, following a young man named Elvis who makes a chance encounter with a stranger named Rodolfo in southern Italy.
