Biography

Yusaku Matsuda was a Japanese actor born in Shimonoseki to a Japanese father and a Zainichi Korean mother. He began his acting career at age 23, appearing as a rookie police officer in the 1970s television detective drama Taiyo ni hoero! His other defining television role was in Tantei monogatari. Matsuda, who specialized in physical action movies, appeared in numerous television shows and films throughout his career. He received the best actor award at the 8th Hochi Film Award for his performances in Detective Story and The Family Game. His role in the 1989 Ridley Scott film Black Rain, which starred Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia, established Matsuda as an international actor.
