Biography

Valerie Hobson was a British actress born Babette Valerie Louise Hobson on 14 April 1917 in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland. She appeared in numerous British films throughout the 1940s and 1950s. In 1935, she portrayed Baroness Frankenstein in Bride of Frankenstein alongside Boris Karloff and Colin Clive, succeeding Mae Clarke in the role. That same year, she starred opposite Henry Hull in Werewolf of London, which is noted as the first Hollywood werewolf movie. During the latter half of the 1940s, Hobson appeared in the 1946 David Lean adaptation of Great Expectations, playing the adult Estella. She died on 13 November 1998.
