Biography
Valentin Iosifovich Gaft was born on 2 September 1935 in Moscow to Ukrainian parents who had recently moved there. He entered the Moscow Theater School in 1953 at age 18 and made his film debut three years later in Mikhail Romm’s “Murder on Dante Street.” Over a career spanning more than half a century, Gaft performed with the Mossovet and Leninsky Komsomol theatre troupes and joined the Sovremennik Theatre in 1969, where he remained
