Ulrich Maria Seidl is a director, screenwriter, and producer born on November 24, 1952, in Vienna, Austria. He does not consider himself a documentary filmmaker, though several of his films blend fiction and nonfiction. He started his career with documentaries such as Good News in 1990, Animal Love in 1995, and Models in 1998. Seidl's first feature film, Dog Days, won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2001. Import Export, the first film produced by his own company, was invited to the Cannes competition. To date, Seidl has directed some 20 feature films, whether fictive or nonfictive.
