Tony Scott (June 21 1944 – August 19 2012) was an English‑American film director, producer and occasional actor. Born in North Shields, Northumberland, he began his career creating television commercials before moving into feature filmmaking. He and his older brother, director Sir Ridley Scott, both graduated from the Royal College of Art in London and became part of a generation of British directors who found success in Hollywood. As a director, Tony Scott was known for high‑octane action and thriller movies, including Top Gun (1986), Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), Days of Thunder (1990), The Last Boy Scout (1991), True Romance (1993), Crimson Tide (1995), Enemy of the State (1998), Man on Fire (2004), Déjà Vu (2006) and Unstoppable (2010). He died in Los Angeles at age 68.
