Tommy David Morrison, nicknamed The Duke, was born on January 2, 1969, in Gravette, Arkansas, and died on September 1, 2013, at the age of forty-four. He was an American professional boxer who held the WBO heavyweight title, winning 48 of his 52 professional fights before retiring in 1996 after testing positive for HIV. He later attempted a comeback in 2006 by claiming he had tested negative for HIV, but in August 2013 his mother announced he was in the final stages of AIDS, preceding his death. Known in the film industry for his acting career, Morrison appeared in the 1990 Sylvester Stallone boxing film Rocky V, starring in a main film role as the character Tommy Gunn.
