Neve had supporting roles in the films Backfire! and Play It Cool in 1962, and she came to wider public attention that same year as Ethel Brown in a television series based on the William books of Richmal Crompton. Her subsequent television roles include Smuggler's Bay in 1964 and Fleur de Lys in a dramatisation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1966. She played Holly in the BBC production of The Forsyte Saga in 1967 and took on the starring role of Isabel Osmond in the BBC adaptation of The Portrait of a Lady in 1968.
