Biography
Sidney James, born Solomon Joel Cohen, was a South African-born actor and comedian who established his career in England. He was born on May 8, 1913, and died on April 26, 1976. James gained prominence as the co-star of Tony Hancock in the production Hancock's Half Hour. He furthered his career by starring in the popular Carry On film series. Throughout his professional life, he was recognized for his lascivious persona and a trademark dirty laugh. Reflecting on his performance style, Bruce Forsyth described James as a natural at being natural. His work remains a notable part of his legacy as a performer in the English entertainment industry.
