Shima Iwashita
Biography
Shima Iwashita, also known as Shima Shinoda, is a Japanese actress born on January 3, 1941, in Tokyo, Japan. During junior high school, she initially aspired to become a psychiatrist, but she gave up this dream after suffering from childhood rheumatism at age 16 to 17, which resulted in a long hospitalization. To divert her energy, she appeared in the 1958 NHK drama Bus Street Back, marking the beginning of her acting career. She made her film debut two years later in 1960. Later in her career, she won the award for best actress at the second Hochi Film Award for Ballad of Orin. She was married to film director Shinoda Masahiro and launched her brand Kimono Shima in 1999 with kimono manufacturer Kyoto Marubeni.
