Biography

Setsuko Hara was a Japanese actress born on June 17, 1920, in Yokohama, Kanagawa prefecture. She came to prominence at an early age in the 1937 German-Japanese co-production Die Tochter des Samurai, also known as Atarashiki Tsuchi. Hara appeared in six films directed by Yasujirō Ozu, including Late Spring, Early Summer, Tokyo Story, Tokyo Twilight, Late Autumn, and The End of Summer. She is known for her work in Japanese cinema, with a career spanning numerous films. Hara passed away on September 5, 2015, at the age of 95.
